Hello, Beauts! Welcome back to my website — I’m so glad you’re here.I know I’ve been focusing on the Demi and Joe storyline, but I wanted to switch things up and explore different stories to keep things interesting instead of predictable.
Before we begin, I want to address a few things. I know that the fanbase of this celebrity can be very protective of their fave, so I’d like to say upfront that I am a fan of Selena Gomez myself. I was obsessed with watching Wizards of Waverly Place as a little girl, and honestly, I still find it entertaining to this day.
I also adore Rare Beauty! I even bought some products for my mom because we both enjoy the brand, and I plan to keep purchasing more in the future (those blushes are everything ✨).
Lastly, whenever I write about these “shade” topics, I always try to be fair and make an effort to understand where the celebrity is coming from.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way — let’s dive in!
1. Calling her future child Emery Bieber while being in a relationship with Nick Jonas
Okay, okay — let’s go back in time to the Disney days, when Nick kept going back and forth between Miley and Selena after each breakup. All three of them were on the rise, with tons of fans adoring their music and shows. Back then, we were more focused on the Disney magic than keeping tabs on our idols’ personal lives.
Anyway, Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas had an on-and-off relationship from 2008 to 2010. It’s unclear exactly when they got back together, but as early as February they were spotted together.

I don’t fully blame Selena for this, because Nick was the one bouncing from girl to girl while still trying to maintain his “good guy” image. A part of me can’t help but wonder if there was cheating involved during all that back-and-forth. Whatever the case, it’s clear that Selena and Nick struggled to maintain their relationship. There’s always that lingering worry: “If he left her for me, could he leave me for someone else?” On top of that, Nick may have felt pressured to keep the relationship as drama-free as possible. Altogether, it seems like there was a mix of trust issues and pressure weighing them down.
Remember when I mentioned the talks about their reconciliation around February? Well, something else happened that same month. Selena Gomez did an interview with Frankie’s Neighborhood on 93.3, where she answered questions from fans. Here’s how the conversation went:

Fan: “ If you had a baby what would you name her? “
Selena: “ Let’s see, I had these names picked out for a while. Umm, let’s see, I like Emory, which is E-M-O-R-Y inserts my husband’s last name. ”
Selena: Yeah Emory Bieber
This would be cute if she were talking about the last name of the person she was actually dating. Keep in mind, Justin and Selena weren’t even rumored to be together until December 2010. At the time, Justin was actually in a relationship with Jasmine Villegas, from January to September of that year.
So why did Selena say this while she was still with Nick Jonas? Could this explain their breakup a month later? If I were in Nick’s position, I wouldn’t want to date someone who’s already thinking about another guy — let alone imagining giving their future child his last name instead of mine.
Anyways the most shady things about this is what she said after her break up with Nick Jonas:

I found this statement odd because no one forced her to be in a relationship with Nick. It also sounds like a common theme I’ve noticed with her — where she tends to play the victim. If Nick didn’t want their relationship to be public, then he had every right to feel that way. He’s always been a fairly private person when it comes to his past relationships.

Selena does prefer to have that public relationship as you can see on her previous relationships.

These two were mismatched and it was clear when Selena said another guy’s name in public.
2. Selena Gomez is supposedly classy and Miley is the slut
I remember when Selenators painted Selena as this “classy queen” who was nothing like the “half-naked Miley Cyrus.” On August 25, 2013, during the infamous VMAs performance with Miley and Robin Thicke, the backlash was brutal — but most of the hate was directed at Miley, not Robin. It was a clear example of double standards, and fans were still struggling with the transition from “Disney Miley” to “adult Miley.”

Anyway, a few months later in November 2013, during her Stars Dance tour stop in Philadelphia, Selena said:
Selena: “ I have to tell you I get it all day every day that I’m not sexy enough or I’m not cool enough- or if I did this I would be accepted. Let me tell you one thing, the sexiest thing I think- actually I know is class and that’s it. ”
The odd thing about this night is that if you try to Google it or look for it on YouTube, there’s very little information online — most likely because her team was still trying to maintain her “good girl” image. Anyway, she and her fans used this quote to slut-shame any woman who didn’t fit into the “vanilla” image. The even stranger part is that Selena herself has done many of the same things that fans criticized Miley for and labeled her a “slut” over.
As you all know, Miley received tons of hate for twerking on a man, yet Selena was able to shake her butt on one of her backup dancers without facing the same backlash. I’m not judging either woman for what they chose to do in their performances, but it raises the question: why did Miley get dragged while Selena walked away from her concert unscathed?
My theory is that Miley did something so overtly adult that fans weren’t ready to see her in that light. Meanwhile, Selenators chose to stay in denial, refusing to view Selena as an adult so that their childhood image of her wouldn’t be shattered.

Even if she was not dancing against her back up dancer she was shaking her butt on stage while dancing while doing a cover for Rihanna’s song to Birthday Cake. The song literally says, “He want that cake” so there is a theme here. Do not tell that song to me that it has nothing to do with her dancing on stage.
During the same tour at Zénith de Paris, Selena did the exact same thing — but even more blatantly. What I find interesting is that this didn’t make mainstream headlines, especially considering how outraged people were over Miley Cyrus’s rebrand at the time.
The only moment that did make the news was when Selena returned to Texas to celebrate her cousin’s engagement, where she publicly twerked. Now, I know her fans could argue that she was just “shaking her butt” in all these events, but the question that keeps boggling my mind is this: why did her fans trash Miley for not being “classy,” while Selena does the same thing in public and still gets to keep her “classy” image?

3. The Hearts What It Wants Song Is Not About Justin Bieber
I know I’m not the only one who thinks this, but these two should have never happened. Their constant back-and-forth only ended up confusing everyone else in the process. Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest — I remember fangirling over their relationship as a kid, but honestly, the only thing that still hooks me now is the nostalgia. And I’d argue that’s the same for most people.

Everyone still talks about how much she loved him, how he was mesmerized by her beauty… yet in the same breath, people complain about how much he hurt her. Fans say they want them back together, but also hate Justin for the way he treated her. Which one is it?
Anyway, let’s go back to when they broke up in November 2012. Their fans were devastated at first, but managed to move on after a while — after all, it was just another Hollywood breakup. However, only a few months later, they were seen together again… and then apart… and then back together. This on-and-off pattern continued for years.
The public grew confused — fans kept asking, “Are they back together or not? If they aren’t, then why are they meeting up? And if they are, why haven’t they announced it?” The constant meetups became so frustrating that eventually even the general public began criticizing Selena, accusing her of using Justin after claiming how badly he treated her.
Now let’s talk about the release of The Heart Wants What It Wants. After Selena faced heavy criticism, her team pushed her to release THWWIW so she could sell the narrative that she “couldn’t control how she felt” and therefore couldn’t stop seeing her ex. Once the song dropped, the general public stopped giving her as much pushback.

But here’s the catch: she didn’t even write the song. It was originally a Gwen Stefani demo. Selenators try to deny this and claim it’s been debunked, but there’s even a video of Gwen singing it. There’s plenty of proof that the song started as Gwen’s demo.

Yes, Selena was given credit as a songwriter, but here is what we are going to do, we are going to read Selena Gomez’s version and then Qwen Stefanie’s version. We are going to see where Selena made the changes in the song and how she was credited even though they sound alike. What I initially wanted to do is look at both songs side by side since her teams and her fans are so anal about what they want out there about Selena, I wanted to only include the parts that were changed. As you can see from the chart below the only parts Selena changed was “my” to “the” every time she sings “the heart wants, what it wants.” Also the part where she sings was, “ Strung out, a little bit hazy” used to be “10 foot inches rise and save me.” Finally the part where she sings, “ Shining, like stars and screaming ” was “ Broken apart and screaming” and that is it.
| SELENA GOMEZ VERSION | GWEN STEFANI VERSION |
| What the heart wants, what the heart wantsWhat the heart wants, what the heart wants | What my heart wants, what the heart wantsWhat my heart wants, wants, wants, wants |
| I know I’m acting a bit crazyStrung out, a little bit hazy Hand over heart, I’m praying | I know I’m acting a bit crazy10 foot inches rise and save meHand over heart, I’m praying |
| You got me scattered in piecesShining, like stars and screamingLighting me up like Venus | You got me scattered in piecesBroken apart and screamingLighting me up like Venus |
Now that I think about it, I have a theory. Keep in mind, Gwen has never said anything publicly about this song—it’s just my interpretation. I remember that she stayed in a marriage where her husband at the time, Gavin Rossdale, was cheating on her with their nanny. Apparently, he cheated on her so much that it became public knowledge. My theory is that she wrote THWWIW about her husband, because the song is about staying in a relationship with someone despite how much they hurt you. What do you guys think about that theory?
Okay, that’s all for today! The amount of work I put into this article was tougher than usual because so much of what I researched was suspiciously hard to find. Honestly, I’d respect her team more if they pushed her to own what she’s done rather than hide who she is.
Selena Gomez is a beautiful woman who built an amazing makeup empire, and I feel like her fans should spend more time praising Rare Beauty instead of constantly tying her name to her ex. She is so much more than a past relationship, and I truly hope she continues to do incredible things with her brand. I can’t wait to see what Rare Beauty has in store for the future.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this topic! Let me know which other celebrities you’d like me to explore next. Wishing you a lovely day — stay safe. Bye. Beauts! 💖
