The Truth About Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato’s Relationship Exposed:

Part 4

So, once Demi and Joe broke up, a lot of things happened. Joe got together with Ashley Greene, and Demi started dating Wilmer Valderrama. There’s a lot to unpack about those relationships, but I want to keep this Jemi-centered so we don’t lose track of the timeline.

When they broke up, I can imagine it was hard for both of them since they still had to do promo and perform together. Based on my experience, it was probably either awkward or filled with tension—especially since Demi admitted that she was mad at Joe when he ended things.

Demi also wrote songs about him years after their breakup, which I’ll talk about later on. Keep in mind, Demi also mentioned that she started using drugs while struggling with an eating disorder, so I can’t imagine she was easy to work with during that time.

Since there’s a lot of information to digest, I decided to save it for the next article—so stay tuned for that! I’ll be digging deeper to find more context about the nature of their relationship, how they got together, and their disastrous breakup.

What I missed

  1. Demi Lovato was asked if Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift are dating

Woah, I had no idea that Demi Lovato was asked whether Joe and Taylor were together or not. Oh my gosh, she seemed so annoyed—like she didn’t even want to spend too much time on the question itself. If you want to see the full video, it’s linked down below (3:00–3:07). However, I don’t really recommend watching it because there were so many kids screaming “Demi!” over and over again that it literally gave me a headache as I was typing this.Anyway, if you don’t want to watch the video, here’s what she said: “Uuuuh, they would look good together, but uh, too bad they’re not (together).” I was shook. I know not everyone was aware of their relationship at the time, but damn. Given that they weren’t exclusive, I can see that Joe was dating around while Demi thought they were exclusive. I can understand that—she was 16 at the time, and of course, you want to feel like you’re chosen. But that’s not always the case.

B. How Jemi was announced to the world

You know, I assumed that their teams put out a statement in an article about their relationship—but no, Demi Lovato actually confirmed it on a radio show. Okay, this is a big deal because, in Hollywood, they’re usually very careful about how they announce a celebrity pairing. Typically, you’ll see a couple acting romantic in public while the paparazzi are conveniently called to capture it and publicize the relationship.

Is it just me, or has any other celebrity done it like this? Let me know. Demi Lovato was doing an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush on his radio program, and here’s how the conversation went:

Bush: “….have you ever dated one of them (Jonas Brothers), ever?”

Lovato: “Uuuh, hehehe,uuuuh hehehe.”

Bush: “Which one?”

Lovato: “umm, maybe?”

Bush:  “Joe?”

Lovato: “What?”

Bush: “Joe?”

Lovato: ” Um, yeah. He’s actually um he’s my best friend and umm.”

Bush: “So you guys went from boyfriend-girlfriend to best friends? BFFS?”

Lovato: “No kind of the opposite.”

Bush: “Oh? So you’re dating him now?”

Lovato: “Umm, yeah he is my best friend and he is incredible.”

Bush: “And your dating him?”

Lovatoz: Hehe, yeah (inaudible voice)

After Demi did the interview, Demi tweeted this:

I do not think a lot of people caught on to her tweet because it had under 100 comments, if something was tweeted like this today it would have blown up. However, those who did catch on were incredibly happy for Joe and Demi.

C. Demi and Joe spent Christmas together

Okay, I didn’t even piece together that they spent Christmas together—how did I miss that? So, it’s clear that they rekindled their relationship around the time they both broke up with their respective partners to work on a movie together. A few months went by, and it was reported that they spent Christmas together “as friends.” I find that statement to be a load of bull—are you telling me they played a romantic couple in Camp Rock 2, started being seen together more often, and it was only as friends? That should’ve been a clear sign that they were in a romantic relationship, especially since they didn’t spend Christmas together in any other year when they were supposedly “just friends” after the breakup.

Now that I think about it, they even did a Christmas song together where they were looking lovingly into each other’s eyes. They weren’t even promoting Camp Rock 2 yet until Disney announced its trailer in June 2010. Wow, I didn’t even notice that before—this is so surprising to me. Sadly, by the time the trailer came out, they had already broken up.

D. Demi attended Kevin and Danielle’s Wedding

Speaking of December of 2009, do you remember what else happened that month? That’s right Kevin and Danielle have their wedding and who is there: Demi Lovato. I know what people are going to say: they probably just invited her because they are friends. Well, keep in mind they broke up with their respective partners and then acted as romantic partners. The movie is not even out yet and Joe and Demi are looking at each other with happiness in their eyes. Promoting the movie would involve talking about the movie, and yet that is not happening here.

Demi and Joe were very much together, and going to a wedding is a big step. No one would take someone to a wedding unless they were comfortable being romantic with each other in front of family members. You can see Demi in the wedding video at the 1:22 mark.

Also, Nick Jonas was secretly dating Nicole Anderson, who was accompanying her boyfriend—so what are we supposed to conclude here about Joe and Demi? Which leads me to this question: how far into a relationship would you wait before inviting your boyfriend or girlfriend to a wedding?

E. Conflicting rumors of how Joe and Demi broke up

Sadly, we all know how this relationship ends — but people tend to forget one of the biggest rumors about how they broke up. I initially believed that Joe dumped her over a phone call, but several insiders reported that it was actually Kevin Jonas Sr. who broke up with Demi on Joe’s behalf. I remember hearing about this rumor back then, but I didn’t think much of it as a kid. If this is true, having your father break up with your girlfriend for you sounds like a coward’s move. Demi did try to do some damage control by tweeting about what didn’t happen, but I still wonder why she never said what actually happened.

I don’t know whether or not this is true, especially since Joe publicly shared his divorce, which was his longest relationship. I mention this because Zac Taylor reportedly got inside information confirming that Joe and Demi started dating in 2009. What do you guys make of this rumor? If it’s true, hopefully Joe can reach a point where he’s honest with his next romantic partner. From what I can tell, Demi was using drugs at the time, and the Jonas Brothers—more specifically, their team—worried that she could negatively impact Joe’s career. So their team apparently agreed that it was better for them to be apart.

Joe initially said that the breakup was mutual, but later admitted that it was his choice, and Demi confirmed that Joe dumped her. This just shows that, despite the “amicable” breakups you hear about in Hollywood, they’re not often as mutual as you might think. I wish I could find this, but there’s a video out there where Demi is on a radio interview and is asked about it. If anyone can find it for me, please send it my way—thank you!

F. Demi Lovato shades Joe around the time they broke up

After Joe and Demi broke up, Demi Lovato performed in Rio, South America, where she shaded Joe in a lyric from Solo. Here’s how the song goes:

Too bad you couldn’t even stay on key

If your life is such a mystery, why don’t you just stick to acting?

However when she performs her song at the concert, it goes:

Too bad you couldn’t even stay on key

If your life is such a mystery, why don’t you just stick to tambourine?

For those who have been long-term fans of the Jonas Brothers, you’ll know that Joe is known for giving his tambourine to fans. Wow—it happened so quickly that I don’t think many people even caught on to what she meant. And guess what? Joe still gives his fans his tambourine to this day.

Lastly, I was sent this, and I want to be very clear that the following information is alleged and was reported anonymously, so it has not been verified. Please take it with a grain of salt. What you’re about to read involves alleged information about Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas—it may not be accurate or confirmed, so approach it with caution. There’s a website that’s a bit hard to find, but I’ve included the link here so you can check it out for yourself.

According to an anonymous Camp Rock 2 extra, they went into detail about what supposedly went on between Joe and Demi off-screen. You can read the full article at the link, but if you’d rather have the short version, here’s what they said:

“ The production company filming the movie was ‘Coin Flip Productions’. There was A LOT of off screen chemistry between Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas. In between takes, they would constantly be holding hands, and go off on their own.”

I’m not surprised, because they had great chemistry—and that was evident to the cast, like Roshon Fegan, who mentioned that there was a love connection between Demi and Joe. It was obvious to fans and to the people in their lives that there was more going on than they cared to admit. Sparks flew, and young romance always feels like the best thing in the world. I can see that Joe and Demi were in their own world, while everyone else watched their romantic journey play out.

“… Joe would always hold Demi’s jacket for her, and he would even give her his own jacket. One night on set, Joe was caressing Demi’s face, and in turn, Demi rubbed his back. These were not the only relationships going on off screen.”

  • I mean, if you had to describe an early romance, this would be it. Demi was so young, and Joe made her feel like things would be different this time, especially after her heart was broken in 2008. Her song “Gonna Get Caught” describes how hurt she was that Joe didn’t choose her over the other girls he was seeing.

“ …I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Toronto, and the Jonas Brothers did in fact at times share rooms with their respected ‘girls’. Joe and Demi roomed together a few times, Nick and Courtney only once in Toronto, and every time Danielle came, she would share with Kevin.”

  • This is the part where you really have to take things with a grain of salt because this implies that their relationship went further than what they had described. Nick and Courtney were obvious that they were together; they even double dated with Joe and Demi. The timeline fits well as Kevin and Danielle were engaged as it says in the article. Keep in mind all of this information is alleged.

I do have more information, but this article is getting so long that I’ll save it for the next one. Please stay tuned, because in the next article I’ll be talking about how the breakup was even more disastrous than people remember. I really enjoy talking about Joe and Demi, and this passion is what keeps me motivated to do what I am passionate to do—researching pop culture. I typically explore other topics too, but I don’t want to lose my drive until I feel satisfied with the work I’ve done. I’m so thankful that you guys took the time to read my article, and I’m truly grateful for all the support I’ve been receiving. You guys are amazing! I hope you have a lovely day and stay safe. Bye Beauts! 🩷
